Are you a queer person with a special place in County Durham? Do you want to contribute to a book about queerness in your local area? Then come and participate in Pride of Place, a series of free creative workshops led by Emory Southwick. Join us at Merryoaks Community Hall to share your story and contribute to a unique book celebrating queerness in our community.
The workshops will be held on the following dates:
- 19th November, 7-9 PM (All ages)
- 28th November, 7-9 PM (All ages)
- 7th December, 1-3 PM (Under 25s)
Participants are encouraged to create artwork, comics, or short written pieces reflecting on a location that holds significance in their queer journey—be it where they came out, a memorable moment of self-acceptance, or simply a space that brings them joy.
All materials will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own supplies. The creations from these workshops will be featured in a forthcoming book dedicated to the diverse experiences of queerness in County Durham. Each participant will receive a copy of the book and may choose to remain anonymous if they wish.

We look forward to celebrating our stories and our places together!
